Self-Reliant Initiatives through Joint Action

Horticulture

  • SRIJAN identified that poor and marginalized farmers with meagre landholdings can benefit more from practicing horticulture
  • Current interventions in fruits are in pomegranate, mango, papaya, custard apple, guava, in Pali, Anuppur, Jatara and Chhindwara locations
  • SRIJAN promotes intercropping of fruit orchards with vegetables like chilli, tomatoes, brinjals, etc to ensure continued income in off season
  • Currently over 4000 families have benefited from the horticulture interventions, with incremental income per season ranging from Rs. 1000-15000, depending on the crop/land size
